Our Mission

We are dedicated to providing the highest quality surgical and medical care for our equine patients. The emphasis in our practice is on excellence and personalized individual care - this is a boutique-style clinic where each patient is examined personally by Drs. Hogan and Curtiss and their highly-skilled staff members on a daily basis. We are dedicated to providing exemplary medical care with a very personal touch.

Patricia M. Hogan, VMD
Diplomate, American College of Veterinary Surgeons

Dr. Hogan has turned a lifetime love for horses into a successful career as an equine surgeon attending to some of the most valuable Standardbred and Thoroughbred racehorses in the country. Dr. Hogan is originally from New Jersey and obtained her veterinary education at the University of Pennsylvania, graduating in 1992. After an internship at the Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital and a 3-year surgical residency at Texas A&M University, Dr Hogan returned home to New Jersey to practice.

Dr. Hogan is the rare type of equine surgeon who is equally proficient in both orthopedic and soft tissue surgery disciplines. The majority of her patients are referred for fracture repair, arthroscopy, or upper airway surgery. Although the bulk of her caseload consists of Thoroughbred and Standardbred racehorses, some of her most memorable patients have never set foot on a racetrack and are just as valuable. Dr. Hogan's background may be in racing, but her dedication to her patients is universal.

Alex Curtiss, VMD
Diplomate, American College of Veterinary Surgeons

Dr. Alex Curtiss is originally from Maryland, where she grew up riding event horses, foxhunting and galloping racehorses. Following graduation from Vanderbilt University with a degree in biology, she took a year off from the books to ride full time professionally. She then headed to Philadelphia for veterinary school at the University of Pennsylvania, graduating in 2014, which was followed by a year-long internship at Rood and Riddle in Lexington, KY. Next, Dr. Curtiss returned to New Bolton Center for a large animal internship and then a large animal surgery residency, which she completed in July of 2019.

During her residency, she published and presented at national meetings on several topics, specifically related to equine orthopedics and upper airway surgery, as well as advanced imaging of the orthopedic patient. Prior to joining Hogan Equine, she spent six months at a busy racehorse practice in Matamata, New Zealand as an associate surgeon. In February of 2020, she achieved Diplomat status with the American College of Veterinary Surgeons and started at our clinic shortly thereafter.
